Andy Goldsworthy: British sculptor, photographer and environmentalist, who produces site-specific sculptures and land art.
This is an artist who interacts with whatever environment he’s in to create something interesting and beautiful, and I thought this might be something cool to try in our own environments we’re sheltering in place in right now.
As an environmentalist, he pretty much exclusively works with natural materials, like stones and leaves and icicles, and you can totally do this in your back yard if you have one. But I can see this working in our house environments as well, maybe with socks or packages of food or toilet paper rolls or whatever else you can find. It can really be anything at all!
Things to think about when you’re arranging:
-Spirals and other shapes
-Gradation (light to dark, or one color to another)
-Bridging from one area to another
Another important component of Andy Goldsworthy’s art is how he photographs it after he is finished. When you take a picture with your phone, think about the angle from which you are looking at what you’ve made, and how you can crop the composition to make it look the best.
Have fun, be safe, and take care!
You guys are awesome!!
